Decision Toolbox CEO Kim Shepherd’s expertise on company culture was tapped into by the San Diego Union-Tribune in the article “How to tell if a company’s culture is right for you.”

Excerpt from the article:

Companies are remaking themselves to keep employees happy — and happier to stick around — by promoting better work/life balance. Companies such as Netflix, Accenture and IBM have announced expanded benefits and perks, including extending parental leave.

If you’re job hunting, how do you make sure you end up at a company with a workplace culture that’s right for you?

Do a workplace culture reality check.

Do your homework

Research a company’s financial health, client and employee retention and industry reputation, suggests Kim Shepherd, chief executive of Decision Toolbox, an Irvine-based recruiter. “For many companies, a simple Google search on the company name and ‘company culture’ can result in a lot of information,” Shepherd said. Look up a potential boss’ LinkedIn profile for insights into their beliefs, interests and soft skills. “If they are involved with charitable causes, you can deduce that they probably care about giving back to the community,” Shepherd said. “It also allows you to find out where they went to school and their career advancement history.”
