Is Your Tech Recruiter Legitimate, Or Just Filling a Quota? Jennifer Bensusen Advises Dice

Jennifer Bensusen, Decision Toolbox technology lead and senior recruitment partner, sat down with Yael Grauer at Dice to share how to tell the difference between a tech recruiter mass spamming vs. one who is trying to strategically cast a wide net for technology talent.  It may seem daunting, but it’s easier than you think to spot a legitimate tech recruiter from one who is questionable.

Jennifer’s tips included:

  • Look for a recruiter who is trying to build a relationship with you.  Personalized emails that show the recruiter is tailoring her message to you is one sign.
  • A legitimate recruiter will want to phone interview you.
  • Beware of recruiters who want to submit your resume without your prior approval.
  • Recruiters should provide a legitimate description of a potential job (unless the search is confidential, in which case full details could be lacking)

“There’ll be an unscrupulous recruiting company that’ll just [farm] you out to a bunch of people to see what sticks, and they may not even have that permission,” said Bensusen.
